In order to implement the recommendations in the Appraisal a period of business planning and change jus usually required. ‘Retention’ is designed to allow recommendations to become part of day-to-day operations and ensure that the business is properly prepared to achieve the agreed objectives. This  enables real change to take place without the usual pain because it is managed by an objective third party.

Retention can take many forms depending upon the agreed objectives. Usually it will involve some or all of the following:

• Comprehensive business planning
• Negotiation with existing banks and lenders
• Management team restructuring
• Direct activity in sales, marketing, finance, business development and production
• Long term strategic planning
• Retirement and succession issues
